New NY PepsiCo Yogurt Plant To Get Big Tax Break

ALBANY, N.Y. — Another yogurt plant is planned for upstate New York, where the dairy industry has been feeding growing demand for Greek yogurt.

PepsiCo and the privately owned German dairy business Theo Muller plan to invest $206 million through a joint venture called Wave LLC. They expect to create more than 180 jobs at the plant in Batavia, between Rochester and Buffalo.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the state will provide a $14 million incentive package. Genesee County will grant $12 million in tax breaks.

The state's 29 yogurt plants produced 530 million pounds last year, up more than 40 percent from 2010.
