NY Dairies Trying To Weather Perfect Storm As Farms Scramble To Find New Milk Buyers

CHARLTON >> David Wood got a phone call that almost made his blood run cold.

The Queens bottling plant, Elmhurst Dairy, which had purchased milk from Wood and six other farmers for the past 12 years, said their product was no longer needed.

The firm had found a less expensive source of milk elsewhere.

“It took me a few days to get my knees back under me,” said Wood, owner of Eildon Tweed Farm in Charlton. “I was pretty much caught off guard.”
