Shatto Milk Company Garlic Butter Among Best At ACS Competition

Shatto Milk Company’s small batch butter’s are quickly making a name for themselves after the local family farm completed its state of the art cheese/butter/ice cream facility in 2011.  On Friday August 3rd, Shatto Milk Company’s Garlic Butter was named third in the Flavored Added – Spices, Herbs, Seasonings, Fruit Category during the 28th Annual American Cheese Society Conference and Competition.  This butter is made in small batches of less than 40 lbs at a time and hand packed into small tubs on the Shatto’s local family farm.  The butter is made with fresh cream from the Shatto’s cows in combination with fresh American garlic.

“We are humbled by such an award as the American Cheese Competition brings out the best products in the country to be judged.  We never thought our butters would rank amongst the best within such a short period of time.” Said the Shatto Family.  “It is our cows that deserve the credit as we truly believe good butter is only possible with outstanding cream.”  Shatto Milk products have received many international awards a over the past two years as Shatto Root Beer Milk received 1st place, strawberry milk 2nd place and their 2% white milk 2nd place at the World Dairy Exposition, which is held annually in Madison, Wisconsin and Shatto’s Plattsburg Gouda cheese was named 3rd at the American Cheese Society Competition one year ago.  Both competitions bring in products from around the world.

Shatto Milk Company has been making farm fresh butter for just over three years, focusing on a variety premium quality salted, unsalted, honey and garlic varieties.  Shatto Butters can be found in many local grocery stores ranging from all local Hy-Vee Stores to Cosentino and McKeever Price Choppers, Whole Foods and many other wonderful retailers that also carry Shatto Milk products.

The American Cheese Society (ACS) is the leading organization supporting the understanding, appreciation, and promotion of farmstead, artisan and specialty cheeses and butters produced in the Americas.  Since its founding in 1983, ACS proudly hosts North America’s foremost annual educational conference and world-renowned cheese and butter judging competition.

More than 750 individuals attended the 2012 conference in Raleigh, NC– the first ever held outside of the United States.  The 2012 Judging and Competition saw a record number of entries: 1711 cheese and butter products from 254 different companies in the United States, Mexico and Canada. 

Shatto Milk Company is a small family dairy farm located 30 miles north of Kansas City.  They began bottling their world famous milk on the farm in June 2003, and just opened their cheese making facility on the farm in March of this year.  They currently make cheese curds as well as a variety of aged farmstead cheeses that are available for sale at the farm as well as at select grocery stores in the Kansas City and St. Joseph areas.
