Neal Gottlieb worked 166 days in a row when he opened his first ice cream shop in San Rafael's Terra Linda neighborhood in 2005.
That summer and fall the Three Twins Ice Cream founder spent his mornings making ice cream and would then run the shop, clean up and do paperwork at night.
"I really don't mop floors too much anymore, I'm happy to say," said Gottlieb, 33.
After getting the San Rafael store at 492 Del Ganado Road on its feet and branching out into wholesale, Gottlieb was able to take some days off – and open shops in Napa in December 2007 and in San Francisco's Lower Haight neighborhood in May 2009.
