Two WhiteWave Foods Products Make Top 20 Best-Selling New Grocery Products Of 2010

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Silk Pure Almond® and International Delight CoffeeHouse Inspirations™ creamers, launched nationally by WhiteWave Foods, are two of SymphonyIRI Group’s top 20 New Product Pacesetters™ for 2010. Both were featured in this year’s New Product Pacesetters eport, the retail industry’s gold standard in new product benchmarking, which is released annually by SymphonyIRI Group, a leading consumer and market intelligence firm. The report tracks the success of new consumer packaged goods (CPG) products.

To earn the title of New Product Pacesetter, a new product or line extension must reach at least $7.5 million in year-one sales across food, drug and mass channels (excluding Walmart), complete a full year of sales and have 30 percent ACV weighted distribution.

Not only were Silk Pure Almond and International Delight CoffeeHouse Inspirations both named 2010 New Product Pacesetters, but both made the list of the top 20 best-selling products of the year. Silk Pure Almond ranked 11th on the list, while International Delight CoffeeHouse Inspirations came in 18th.

“It is a tremendous accomplishment for a company to have two products named New Product Pacesetters, much less two products in the list of the top 20 bestsellers,” said Larry Levin, executive vice president, Consumer & Shopper Marketing, SymphonyIRI Group. “WhiteWave clearly has a strong innovation platform, leveraging its knowledge of consumers and their thirst for products that fill unmet needs to improve their lives by satiating their appetites for indulgence and healthy living. Certainly, WhiteWave’s launches of Silk Pure Almond and International Delight CoffeeHouse are evidence that its teams are learning from consumers and their passions.”

In 2010, only 21 percent of all new products achieved New Product Pacesetter status. In the food and beverage category, only 9 percent of new products achieved $20 million or more in sales, which Silk Pure Almond and International Delight CoffeeHouse Inspirations far surpassed at $47 million and $39 million in sales, respectively. “Large national brands certainly have the marketing muscle and distribution contacts to attain Pacesetter status, but it’s inspiring to see smaller to medium sized marketers, like WhiteWave, breakthrough and win the hearts and minds of consumers with products that fit their needs,” explained Levin.

“At WhiteWave, we’re fortunate to have a portfolio of strong brands to build upon, like Silk and International Delight,” said Blaine McPeak, president of WhiteWave Foods. “We are always looking for ways to bring great-tasting, innovative beverages to consumers and both Silk Pure Almond and International Delight CoffeeHouse Inspirations have clearly delivered on that goal.”

WhiteWave launched Silk Pure Almond in January of 2010. Each glass of Silk Pure Almond is an excellent source of natural antioxidants and provides 50 percent more calcium than typical dairy milk but without any cholesterol, saturated fat, dairy or soy.

In 2009, International Delight CoffeeHouse Inspirations launched with five flavors. Each provides consumers with a true coffeehouse experience, both at home and at a budget-friendly price.
