Fonterra Can't Import Cheese Directly Into US In 2015

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — For the world's biggest dairy exporter, U.S. bureaucracy has recently proven hard to stomach.

When preparing paperwork for cheese imports this year, Fonterra Cooperative Group Ltd. said Monday it had inexplicably missed a deadline with the result that it has now been locked out of the U.S. market.

"Due to human error, a deadline was missed, which meant that Fonterra (USA) failed to apply in time for licenses to import New Zealand cheese into the U.S. in 2015," said Kelvin Wickham, Fonterra director of global ingredients.
