New Snacking Option: Pepperidge Farm Baked Naturals Cracker Chips

NORWALK, Conn. — When mid-afternoon snack cravings strike, many people are faced with a difficult decision: To snack or not to snack? This dilemma feels particularly daunting when New Year’s resolutions about healthier living can shine a spotlight on one’s eating habits. While people have various reasons for snacking throughout the day, they often struggle to find wholesome snacks that taste good, too.

New Pepperidge Farm® Baked Naturals™ Cracker Chips can help people feel better about snacking with a great-tasting option. With 60-65% less fat per serving than the leading potato chip (3.5-4g total fat/28g vs. 10g total fat/28g), always-baked Cracker Chips are a more wholesome snack option than fried potato chips. Available in two great tasting flavors, Simply Cheddar and Simply Multigrain, both varieties boast 18g of whole grains per serving. Like all of the tasty snacks in the Baked Naturals line, Cracker Chips contain no artificial flavors or preservatives, so people no longer need to choose between snacks that taste good and snacks that they can feel good about eating…They can now snack without compromising!

“Pepperidge Farm is delighted to offer consumers a delicious snack option that they can feel good about,” said Steve White, Vice President, Pepperidge Farm. “With the whole grain goodness of a cracker in a great-tasting, light and crispy chip, Cracker Chips are a perfect addition to the wholesome Baked Naturals line.”

A Wholesome Snacking Struggle – By the Numbers

Wholesome snacking is of particular concern to many. According to a recent study by Wakefield Research for Pepperidge Farm, two-thirds (67%) of women surveyed agreed that when it comes to snacking, it’s difficult to find a snack that is both wholesome and satisfying. What’s even more revealing is that 68% of the women reported that they are more likely to choose something that tastes good over something that is good for them.

Luckily, Pepperidge Farm has an answer: new Baked Naturals Cracker Chips are delicious and wholesome.

•While many women stated that they only snack when hungry, 39% admitted to nibbling when they are bored and 34% confess to munching during stressful moments.
•Women are divided when it comes to which taste best satisfies snack cravings: According to the Pepperidge Farm study, the three most satisfying snack tastes are salty (28%), sweet (27%) and crunchy (23%), while the three least satisfying snack tastes are savory (11%), chewy (6%) and spicy (5%). Baked Naturals Cracker Chips’ slightly salty, crunchy taste satisfies more than half of all women’s snacking preferences.
•Even though 49% of women feel “energized” and 11% feel “relaxed” after grabbing a pre-dinner snack, not all women experience positive feelings – 1 in 5 women (20%) report feeling “guilty” following a post-lunch snack.

New Pepperidge Farm Baked Naturals Cracker Chips are available in Simply Cheddar and Simply Multigrain varieties at major supermarkets, grocery stores and mass merchandisers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.49.
