Three New Cheese Plants Are Coming To Wisconsin

Three new cheese plants are coming to Wisconsin, creating jobs and boosting the state's rural economy.

One of the bigger plants will be in Platteville, where Emmi Roth USA is expanding its Wisconsin operations to produce specialty cheese.

Platteville was one of three Wisconsin cities that competed for the $44 million plant, which is expected to be in production in 2013 and create up to 60 jobs.

On average, the wages will be from $17 to $19 an hour, said Platteville City Manager Larry Bierke.

The plant also will "employ" 3,500 cows in the region, Bierke said.
