Two DCI Cheeses Recognized At World Cheese Awards

RICHFIELD, Wis., — DCI Cheese Company (DCI) is pleased to announce that two of its product offerings were granted Bronze awards at the World Cheese Awards held last week in the United Kingdom: Black River Gorgonzola and El Cortijo Murcia al Vino.

Black River Gorgonzola is a perennial award winner recognized for its exceptional flavor, rich, creamy texture and beautiful, consistent veining. In addition to a variety of other honors, Black River Gorgonzola has received six first place awards over the last 10 years at the American Cheese Society contest, US Championship Contest, Wisconsin State Fair and Wisconsin Dairy Expo. This is the cheese’s first prize at the World Cheese Awards. Manufactured in Wisconsin’s leading dairy and milk producing county, Black River Gorgonzola can be used to enhance mashed potatoes, dips and sauces and pairs nicely with red wines like Pinot Noir and Merlot.

El Cortijo Murcia al Vino is a young, firm, goat's milk cheese with a bold flavor and intoxicating aroma. The imported cheese is bathed in red wine during ripening, a process that deeply tints the cheese to produce an extraordinary burgundy color and adds a hint of flavor. Murcia al Vino has been certified "Denominación de Origen Protegida" (D.O.P.), an official recognition that guarantees the cheese is made in the Murcia region of Spain from the milk of Murciano-Granadina goats, widely considered to be the best breed in the county. Its mild, crisp taste and pleasant finish make it perfect for snacking. The cheese pairs well with full-bodied Spanish reds like Rioja or Ribera del Duero. This is El Cortijo Murcia al Vino’s second recognition at the World Cheese Awards; it received a Bronze in 2009 as well.

DCI is now accepting orders for Black River Gorgonzola and El Cortijo Murcia al Vino. For more information, contact a DCI sales representative by e-mail at moreinfo@dcicheeseco.com or by calling 1.800.782.0741.
