Defra Secretary Liz Truss comes to the home of British cheese today – and is urging more manufacturers to win protected status for their products to challenge the French and Italians.
The Secretary of State will visit the Bath and West Show on its second day reminding cheesemakers that Britain now out-produces the continentals in terms of volume and quality.
But the Secretary of State believes more manufacturers should apply for protected status for their goods to boost the value of its provenance and prevent others trying to copy their specific styles.
