Color trends determine what clothes we buy, what furniture we want in our homes and how we decorate, both indoors and out. Colors may be popular for years, but eventually color trends move on. That’s good – remember those neon leggings from the 80s?
As colors evolve from one season to the next, important social and economic aspects are at work. Blue is a great example of this.
For 2014 blue is the key color, in all of its many shades. This comes from our obsession with water. As we suffer droughts, flooding, rising oceans, melting glaciers and the conversion of water to currency, the availability of pure water will be an ongoing challenge to us all. And yet water is also calming, serene, ethereal, fun, cleansing and nurturing. It sustains life. The importance of water will be influential on color palettes and products for years to come.
