VIERA — No one questions the power and popularity of Walmart, the behemoth retailer that registered $419 billion in sales last year.
So when a Walmart representative approached Cocoa businessman Terry Black a year ago about opening a small, full-service flower shop inside the Viera Walmart, just a few paces from the store’s main entrance and its bustling checkout lanes, Black thought it was an invitation to a retail Eden.
“The first words out of the Walmart representative’s mouth when he approached me were, ‘I have an opportunity of a lifetime for you,’ ” Black recalled.
A few months after that meeting, the 400-square-foot Magic Dove Flower Shop became the first independent florist operating within any of Walmart’s 9,700 retail units spread across 28 countries.
