Takeovers, Mergers & Partnerships In Floriculture Land

Dutch flora breeder Agribio Group has recently agreed to a broad partnership with Bartels Roses and Bartels Stek, two divisions of the renowned Dutch breeding company Goos Bartels. Breeder and cultivator Preesman Holland BV has similarly agreed to a collaboration with Olij Breeding, which will function as Preesman’s agent from now on. Meanwhile, Belgian flower and vegetable wholesaler Univeg is planning to sell its entire flower and plant division.

The collaboration between Agribio and Bartels will mean a vast expansion of the former company’s assortment, as well as increased growth potential for Bartels. Synergy between the R&D departments of the organizations is also expected to result in new flower varieties being developed faster.

The Agribio Group expects to significantly strengthen its global market position as a result of the partnership, which sees the company acquire a substantial amount of the shares in Bartels. Managing Director Goos Bartels will continue in his function of CEO and the Bartels brand name will be retained as well.

Earlier this year, Agribio already increased its activities in Northern America (where it is primarily active under the banner of Fides) through its takeover of propagator Oro Farms. The group also took a stake in Dutch gene technology company Genetwister Technologies this summer.
