Perdue Farms To Sell Alabama Plant

SALISBURY — Perdue Farms officials announced they will sell their chicken Dothan, Ala., chicken processing complex.

The site site will go to Georgia-based Wayne Farms, the fifth-largest vertically integrated poultry producer in the United States. Wayne owns and operates 10 facilities throughout the South, produces 1.8 billion pounds of poultry each year and employs approximately 8,900 people.

The sale — terms and conditions were not disclosed Tuesday — will become official Dec. 1. It will include Perdue’s Dothan processing plant, Dothan hatchery and a feed mill and grow-out office located in DeFuniak Springs, Fla.

Perdue will continue to operate a hatchery in Samson, Ala., to support its Perry, Ga., processing plant. The closing will not affect Perdue’s breeder operations in Florida and Alabama.
