Sam Adams Brewery Teams With Jewel To Offer ‘Lager Cut’ Of Beef

When I think of indulging in a great steak served up with a cold beer, it immediately evokes images from of one of my favorite movies "The Road to Wellville" (1994) with Anthony Hopkins playing the eccentric Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, inventor of the cornflake and proponent of clean colons at his famous turn-of-the-century health sanitarium in Battle Creek, Mich. Dr. Kellogg did not believe in consuming meat and expected his wealthy guests/patients at his health spa to abide by the same menu rules.

In one scene, actor Matthew Broderick's character sneaks away to a local tavern in town and feasts on a thick-cut steak, served up very rare and smothered in grilled onions, mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. He washes it all down with cold beer.

This week, if you're looking for a similar temptation, there are exclusive beer and beef sampling events with Samuel Adams beer and the new Samuel Adams Boston Lager Cut of steak now available at Jewel-Osco stores in the Chicago area.

From 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jewel stores will offer a sampling of the favorite ale paired with the brewer's Boston Lager Cut, which will be sold at Jewel meat counters. Customers will receive a coupon for $2 off that special cut of beef if they buy a 12-pack of Samuel Adams Boston Lager.
