Central American Produce Promotes Good Heart Health

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Central American Produce is promoting the benefits of its squash and seedless watermelons. These items will be tagged with the “heart healthy” sticker, reminding consumers of just some of the benefits of these items, and adding eye appeal to produce displays.

Watermelon contains the amino acid citrulline, which controls blood flow and cardiovascular function. It is also low in saturated fat and cholesterol. Both butternut and spaghetti squash are low in calories, and contain no saturated fats or cholesterol. Butternut squash is also high in potassium, which is known to help prevent and lower high cholesterol levels.

Company president Michael Warren states, “We are aware of the many health benefits of the products we grow and sell, and want to help get word out to consumers. Promoting good heart health during the month of February is the perfect opportunity for us to do so.”

Warren continues “our watermelons and squash are grown in a remote area of Guatemala on our own farms. The fields are located at a higher altitude, at the base of a dormant volcano. This provides us with rich soil and a unique climate for growing. The result is a product with a unique flavor profile, and high internal and external color. You’ve just got to try it to believe it, and we want to do all we can to encourage consumers and buyers to do so.”
