Report Shows Lowest Citations For LGMA Members

The California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement's 2013/14 Annual Report is now available and on-line at www.lgma.ca.gov. This annual compilation of audit results for LGMA members continues to show improvements in the number and severity of citations issued by government inspectors who audit leafy green farms.

LGMA CEO Scott Horsfall noted, "All LGMA members are required to correct any citation issued.  So, in the end, they all must be in 100% compliance with all checkpoints in each government audit. However, the low number of citations issued means that members are doing better at complying with the metrics from the outset, without the need for corrective actions. This is another sign of the continuous improvements being driving by the LGMA program."

For a summary of the report findings, read a blog post written by LGMA Compliance Officer Jonathan Field. LGMA Chairman Ryan Talley, of Talley Farms in San Luis Obispo, also posts on the LGMA Blog with the highlights of the past year as he sees them. Top on his list was a tour of leafy greens farms by STOP Foodborne Illness and a growing relationship between the leafy greens community and people whose lives have been impacted by foodborne illness.

On a final note, the LGMA has this to say about the year's audit results, "While this year’s LGMA Annual Report is an excellent report card on the industry’s performance, the goal is to always do and be better. We have to. This is about safe food."
