Strategy Expert Julie Krivanek To Address Strategic Thinking For Young Professionals

Denver, Colorado – The produce industry’s young professionals will have a rare chance to learn about the single most-important business behavior they need to excel when the industry’s foremost strategy expert Julie Krivanek addresses them during a free webinar on Sept. 23.

“The world’s top executives have spoken, ‘being strategic’ is the most important business practice today’s business professionals should have,” said Krivanek, citing research from Management Research Group. “This is a key skill our industry’s young professionals will need for advancement.”

Krivanek will address “Strategic Thinking for Young Professionals” at 12 noon EDT on Sept. 23, when PMA’s Foundation for Industry Talent offers the latest installment in its Young Professionals Webinar Series.

Krivanek will cover:

  • How strategic thinking is shaped by our industry’s unique drivers.
  • What strategic thinking is and how it differs from strategic planning.
  • How to assess whether you’re a natural strategic thinker, or need to rewire your brain.
  • Test your “organizational intelligence” (how much do you know about what really counts?).
  • Test your “industry intelligence” (how much do you know about today’s hot trends, and how they shape your thinking about the future?).
  • Why most ideas fall flat, and how to avoid this most common trap.
  • Hot tips that you can immediately put to use to think strategically now.

Why attend? “Strategic thinking and planning skills separate the best business thinkers from the rest of the pack, no matter what your job title or function,” said Krivanek. “Learning and demonstrating it early in your career will help you advance.”

The Sept. 23 webinar will be the third time this year that Krivanek has spoken to key produce industry audiences about the importance of strategic thinking. Her talk “Putting the Latest Trends to Work for You” was a highest-rated session at PMA’s Foodservice Conference in July (viewable here). In May, she addressed the importance of strategic thinking for women at PMA’s annual Women’s Fresh Perspectives Conference.

She also teaches business and leadership skills as the cornerstone speaker for United Fresh Produce Association’s Produce Industry Leadership Program since its inception.

A former vice president on the fast track at a Fortune 500 company, Krivanek returned to her family’s produce roots when she founded Krivanek Consulting in 1990. (Her grandmother grew up on a farm in Prague. Her grandfather owned a corner grocery store in Chicago that her mother and uncle turned into a natural food store “long before that was the trendy thing to do,” says Krivanek.) Her clientele include some of the industry’s best-known names – “and others that will be,” Krivanek adds.
