If you love to shop and save there, Publix has some good news for you.
Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets Inc. has three new Central Florida stores in the works — two replacements for existing stores and a revamp of a former Albertsons store.
Publix — which has 1,073 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee — for years has dominated Central Florida’s grocery store scene. But in recent months, the chain has seen increased competition from expanding upscale and niche grocers like Whole Foods Market, which has a Winter Park store in the works; The Fresh Market, which is set to open in Winter Springs in February; and even Trader Joe’s, which has plans for stores in Winter Park and possibly Dr. Phillips.
