Fresh & Easy Files Bankruptcy, Making Official Its Plan To Leave California

As expected, Fresh & Easy filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week as part of its plan to exit three states, including California.

In the filing last Friday, Torrance-based Fresh & Easy listed 30 creditors with the largest unsecured claims. Several Southern California businesses list claims ranging from $230,000 to $1.8 million.

Fullerton-based Hidden Villa Ranch, a shell egg distributor, is owed $909,000, according to the creditors’ listing. Other local creditors include Santa Ana-based Pak West Paper and Packaging and Anaheim-based Bunzl Distribution California.

The latest bankruptcy filing is the chain’s second.
