Indiana Pork Partnering With Culinary Arts Program

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Pork is partnering with Ivy Tech Community College – Central Indiana to provide a $5,000 sponsorship toward the purchase of pork that will be used for class demonstrations in the Culinary Arts program.

The Hospitality Administration program, which houses the Culinary Arts program, is one of the largest in the state with more than 1,000 students.  As part of the required coursework, students must learn how to identify pork cuts and process a pig. In addition, students learn proper cooking techniques utilizing multiple pork cuts.

"Indiana pork products have always been a big part of the curriculum taught at Ivy Tech Community College," said Chef Thom England, culinary instructor.  "With this partnership we will be able to expand what students are able to see and cook with.  Our graduates will have a much deeper understanding of Indiana pork and its versatility."

The pork will be purchased from McFarling Foods located in Indianapolis.

"We are excited about this partnership because it's important that students learn how to properly handle and cook pork in hopes that they will feel excited about featuring it on a menu someday," said Sarah Ford, Director of Checkoff Programs at Indiana Pork.

Indiana Pork is a not-for-profit association representing Indiana's 3,000 family pork farmers through the pork checkoff program.  Learn more at www.indianapork.com
