Instacart Pushes Further Into Chicago With Sunset Foods

Instacart, an online service that delivers groceries from local stores, is adding Sunset Foods to its lineup on Tuesday as it tries to attract more customers in the northern suburbs as part of its rapid expansion in the Chicago area.

Instacart hires independent personal shoppers who use their own cars to make deliveries, sometimes in as little as an hour. It currently has more than 300 such shoppers in the Chicago area delivering orders from chains including Costco, Jewel-Osco, Tony’s Fresh Market and Whole Foods.

Instacart began in San Francisco in 2012 and expanded into Chicago in September 2013. It competes with a variety of services around the country, including Peapod.
