Kroger CEO: Online Shopping Not A Threat

Kroger Co. CEO David Dillon doesn’t think online grocery shopping will be a huge factor in the future, the Wall Street Journal reports.

While Amazon is expanding its online grocery ordering and home delivery service, Dillon says most customers aren’t interested and the industry doesn’t stand to benefit from small margins the option provides.

“I wouldn’t be too quick to assume that the leap to home delivery ends up replacing everything,” Dillon said during the Cincinnati-based grocer’s investor day on Wednesday.

Dillon believes shoppers like making a connection with their community and neighbors by going to the grocery store, which is one reason why Kroger’s digital strategy doesn’t focus on e-commerce.
