National Grocers Association Elects New Board

Arlington, VA – The National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) elected five new board members and re-elected nine board members to its Board of Directors at the association’s 2010 Annual Convention and Supermarket Synergy Showcase, held February 9-12, 2009 at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Retailer members elected to the board include:

Barry Queen, CEO of Queen’s Stores/Price Chopper, Paola, KS; and
Donald Weiss, President and CEO of WiseWay SuperCenters, Merrillville, IN.
New Wholesalers elected to the board include:

James Denges, President and CEO of Central Grocers, Inc., Joliet, IL;
Robert Ling, Jr., Executive Vice President, General Counsel; and Secretary of Unified Grocers, Commerce, CA; and
Cal Miller, President and CEO of Associate Grocers of Florida, Pompano Beach, FL.
The Board of Directors also re-elected retailers:

Eric Hench, Chairman of Chief Supermarket, Inc., Defiance, OH;
Roger Lowe, Jr., CEO of Lowe’s Supermarkets, Littlefield, TX;
Mike Provenzano, Sr., President and CEO of Pro Ranch Markets, Ontario, CA; and
Eddie Roche, President Roche Bros Supermarkets, Wellesley, MA.
The Board of Directors also re-elected the following wholesalers:

Neal Berube, Chief Operating Officer, Associated Food Stores, Inc., Salt Lake City, UT;
Michael Bourgoine, President and CEO, Associated Grocers of New England, Manchester, NH;
James Buchanan, President and CEO, Laurel Grocery Company, LLC, London, KY; and
Dean Janeway, CEO of Key Food Stores Cooperative, Staten Island, NY.
The Board also re-elected as State Association Executive, Jim Rogers, President and CEO of the Food Industry Alliance of New York State, Albany, NY.

The Board also recognized outgoing board members and thanked them for their many years of dedication and service to N.G.A. and the independent grocery industry. Outgoing board members were:

David Sinnwell, President and CEO of Dahl’s Food Markets, Inc., Des Moines, IA;
Gerald Totoritis, President and CEO of Associated Grocers of the South, Birmingham, AL; and
Ken Fielder, President of Ken’s Supermarkets, Inc., Aberdeen, SD.
