SuperValu said late Wednesday that it is selling 107 gas stations in the Midwest, Intermountain West and West Coast regions. The transaction includes the majority of fuel centers within the Albertsons, Cub Foods, Hornbacher’s and Jewel-Osco brands. SuperValu said the transactions will allow it to monetize non-core assets, creating capital to use to strengthen its business.
Tesoro (TSO) is purchasing 52 Albertsons fuel centers, while Couche-Tard/Circle K is buying 27 Jewel-Osco centers. Holiday Stationstores is purchasing 15 fuel centers from Cub Foods, Hornbacher’s, and Albertsons, and Stinker is buying 14 Albertsons gas stations. SuperValu will continue to operate 27 fuel center not involved in these transactions, and continue to seek buyers for them. The deals are expected to close in the fall, the company said.
Earlier in the week, refiner and gas retailer Sunoco (SUN) said it would sell its refining operations to focus on its other businesses.
