Proposed Rule Change Moves Start Of Miss. Commercial Fishing Seasons

BILOXI, Miss. – At the Feb. 15 Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources (CMR) meeting, the CMR proposed to amend Title 22, Part 7, of the fishing rules and regulations to allow the current commercial seasons for flounder, red drum and spotted seatrout, which began Oct. 1, 2010, to run through Dec. 31, 2011 (or when the commercial catch limits have been met). Thereafter, the commercial seasons for flounder, red drum and spotted seatrout would begin on January 1 and run through December 31 (or when the commercial catch limits have been met).

Copies of the proposed changes are available at the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) or on-line at the MDMR website www.dmr.ms.gov.

Public comments on the proposed regulation change will be accepted through March 15, 2011. All comments should be mailed to the MDMR main office at 1141 Bayview Avenue, Biloxi, MS 39530, Attention: Joe Jewell, by 5 p.m. on March 15 or emailed to Joe Jewell at joe.jewell@dmr.ms.gov.
