Taylor Farms Pledges $2 Million to Support Cal Poly’s New Plant Sciences Complex

Taylor Farms, a family-owned, Salinas-based company and North America’s leading producer of salads and healthy fresh foods, has pledged $2 million to the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences’ new Plant Sciences Complex. This gift will help fund the new George Wurzel Plant Sciences Building, which will be the teaching and research hub of the Plant Sciences Complex.

Cal Poly Strawberry Center Highlights Research at Strawberry Field Day

The Cal Poly Strawberry Center highlighted more than a dozen farm research projects at its highest-attended Strawberry Field Day. Members of the California Strawberry Commission and more than 400 strawberry growers, researchers, and industry representatives were in attendance and learned about the program’s efforts to improve California’s multi-billion dollar strawberry industry.

Cal Poly Wins Medal in National Cheese Competition

Cal Poly earned a third-place award for its student-produced Grand Gouda against some of the top cheesemakers in the nation at the 2019 U.S. Championship Cheese Contest. The university also placed fifth with its Smoked Gouda.

Cal Poly Rose Float receives 2019 Extraordinaire Award

At the 2019 Rose Parade held New Year’s Day, the group received the Extraordinaire Award — which recognizes the most extraordinary float entered in the annual contest — for their entry “Far Out Frequencies.” Tuesday’s win is the first time the program has received the Extraordinaire Award in its 71 years of participation.
