Cal Giant Berry Kicks Off Wimbledon Program

Watsonville, CA- June 23, 2010 – California Giant Berry Farms is spending all week this week sharing strawberries and cream with locals in tourists in downtown Manhattan bringing a taste of Wimbledon to Rockefeller Center.

The New York portion of the program kicked-off Monday, June 21, tennis greats Jim Courier and Monica Seles enjoying a friendly game of tennis while enjoying the fans and fresh California Giant strawberries on the grass tennis court specially developed for the event. Several complimentary activities during the week included live daily Wimbledon broadcasts on the jumbo screen with viewing bleachers, public grass court play, and several carts serving the traditional English style strawberries and cream compliments of California Giant Berry Farms. Fans with IPODS can also capture the many QR codes placed in and around Rockefeller Center to gain even more information about Wimbledon traditions and the delicious strawberries being served.

California Giant Berry Farms provided 75,000 strawberries for the public to enjoy at strawberries and cream carts in the outdoor viewing area. Each morning as the carts are wheeled out onto the street people instantly are forming lines to get their own container of California Giant strawberries with fresh cream to enjoy while sitting in the bleachers watching Wimbledon on the giant TV screen, or Jim Courier volley with kids lining up to play on the famous grass court. In total 25,000 containers will be distributed over a five day period each holding berries and fresh whipped cream.

“It is so great to be able to watch these folks enjoy the game of tennis and enjoy our berries as they walk through Rockefeller Center participating in all of the free events”, says Cindy Jewell, California Giant Marketing Director. “What a great way to bring in the first day of summer on Monday with the event kick-off by sharing sweet summer Cal Giant berries with over 5,000 people in Manhattan” she adds.

“The opportunity to participate in this exciting event really helps to reinforce our messaging at California Giant about the importance of combining diet and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle and extend our brand awareness in person with a broad group of consumers”, says Jewell.
