As a way to expand and improve its business operations, the Arcata-based Brio Baking Inc. recently began a unique type of crowd-funding campaign that allows customers and local residents to purchase stock in the company.
Rather than taking out a loan or partnering with another company, Brio Baking Inc. founder Serge Scherbatskoy said he wanted to expand his business while still retaining their flair for supporting local businesses and producers.
“What we’re doing here is we’re transitioning from a privately owned company into a community venture,” Scherbatskoy said.
