Awrey Bakery Saved From Auction, Back In Business

Livonia — Awrey Bakery, which came within minutes of closing and having its assets sold at auction, reopened Monday under new ownership and again began rolling out the cookies, cakes and pastries it's become synonymous with for more than a century.

Minnie Marie Bakers Inc., a Michigan-based company, purchased the 103-year-old bakery in an 11th hour deal after talks that lasted 20 days, according to CEO Jim McColgan.

Minnie Marie Bakers, based in the Midland-Bay City area, is owned by Ron Beebe.

The Livonia baking facility had been closed since mid-February.
