The Terrible Towel is an awesome sight being waved in a crowded stadium — and it looks great as a cookie, too!
Local bakeries celebrate the Steelers season and upcoming Super Bowl with black-and-gold theme goodies. Delectable Steelers confections include a "Ginger Ben" cookie, football-shape cookies and cupcakes, cookies with black-and-gold sprinkles, and cakes in the shape and colors of the Terrible Towel and jerseys.
"During the football season, we do some, but, obviously, it's not nearly as big as once we get into the playoffs," says Joe Porco, owner of the Lincoln Bakery in Bellevue. "It seems like it gets bigger the further (the Steelers) advance."
The Lincoln Bakery's Steelers goodies include black-and-gold almond cookies, football-shape cookies and specialty cakes — including cakes in the shape and colors of player jerseys, and a Terrible Towel quarter-sheet cake. Special orders and reservations aren't necessary, Porco says, but those cakes go quickly.
