Jews in the Wheaton-Silver Spring area will soon have a new kosher option: Costco.
In a recent statement, Costco Wholesale Corporation announced its plans to open up a kosher bakery at its new location in the Westfield Wheaton Plaza Shopping Mall.
With the Costco store slated to open in October of this year, the dairy bakery will be certified under the OK Certification Organization, and is the 16th Costco bakery to go kosher.
Responsible for bringing the kosher bakery to the area is Kemp Mill resident Phil Lehman, who, after visiting the kosher Costco bakeries in New York, knew he wanted to bring them to his hometown.
