Changes Sought For Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board

BATON ROUGE — The full Senate is scheduled to vote soon on legislation that would restructure the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

The proposal would reorganize the board’s membership, strengthen its oversight rules and, over time, change the way it approaches its mission.

The Senate Natural Resources Committee voted unanimously Thursday to approve the legislation after listening to a small chorus of opposition.

Sen. Norby Chabert, R-Houma, said the board has undergone many transformations since being formed by the Legislature in 1984.
