Portland’s Popular Pacific Pie Co. Eyes Wholesaling Expansion With Savory & Sweet

It was her Australian husband’s nostalgia for “savory pies” that sparked the idea for Sarah Curtis-Fawley to start her company in Portland, Ore., more than two years ago.

The Oreland native moved back to the United States from Australia with her husband, Chris Powell, in 2007. The two lived with Fawley’s mother in Oreland to save money to start their business, Fawley said by phone from the West Coast Oct. 20.

“He was really missing savory pies because that’s basically what everyone eats for lunch in Australia,” she said. “I had been planning on starting a totally different business, but we thought this may be a good idea for a business since no one over here really bakes savory pies.”

“We baked a lot of pies and tested a lot of pastry recipes” while living with her mother, Fawley said.
