Preliminary Report – 43rd International Sweets & Biscuits Fair (ISM)

Around 1,400 suppliers from about 70 countries will once again present the rich variety of confectionery and snack items in Cologne this coming January. That's when the 43rd International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (ISM) will open its doors to the trade public. On an area covering 110,000 m², manufacturers and importers will present an almost complete range of all of the goods on the market. In addition to chocolate products there will be sugar confectionery, fine baked goods, snack products, ice cream and raw pastes. For the first time, start-up companies will be exhibiting together in a common "Newcomer Area". Russia is the ISM 2013 partner country. In addition, ProSweets Cologne – the international supplier fair for the confectionery industry – will take place for the sixth time, and will again be held in parallel with ISM. Together these trade fairs cover the entire value chain of confectionery production – in one place and at the same time. This is a unique constellation worldwide that offers the confectionery industry numerous synergies in the context of product development and purchasing activities.

ISM 2013
Once again the spectrum of exhibitors at the world's largest and most important trade fair for the confectionery industry will be wide ranging and very international. The breadth and size of the confectionery and snack item industry will be demonstrated by the many medium-sized and smaller companies that will be exhibiting alongside the large market-leaders. The largest portion of exhibitors, 82 per cent to be exact, will come from outside Germany. ISM will occupy Halls 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11 of the Cologne exhibition centre – in other words, it will cover a gross exhibition space of 110,000 m². Only end products destined for the retail trade will be presented at ISM.

Partner country of ISM 2013: Russia
As the partner country of ISM, Russia will showcase the special qualities it has to offer when it comes to manufacturing semi-finished and finished products. Russia's partner country activities will be organised under the auspices of the Association of the Enterprises of the Confectionery Industry of Russia (ASKOND). The association will also emphasize why Russia is a market with great potential during a press conference at ISM.

Newcomer Area – ISM 2013
ISM is offering newcomers in the confectionery industry the opportunity to exhibit at the world's most important trade platform for confectionery and snack items – even if they only have a limited budget and a small staff. The "Newcomer Area" will be located in an attractive and excellently designed location in Hall 11.1. The ten suppliers represented here will exhibit a wide range of products during their presentations of their companies as new ISM participants.

New Product Showcase
New products and marketing strategies continue to give the food and beverage trades decisive opportunities for boosting sales and customer loyalty. The ISM "New Product Showcase" offers trade purchasers an attractive sourcing and information platform. ISM exhibitors can book display cases here to showcase their new products and innovations. In addition, all of the products on exhibit will be given a QR code and pictured on the Internet once the trade fair begins.

"Nostalgia" – special show presented by the KISD
The special show "Sweet Nostalgia" will present a wealth of ideas from the international design students of the KISD – Köln International School of Design. As the name suggests, this year the show will have a nostalgic touch. Well-known products will be re-evaluated and innovative ideas will be placed in a classical context. A wide variety of new product concepts and packaging ideas will be generated under the guidance of Professor Jenz Großhans and designer Sebastian Heilmann. The up-and-coming designers will be available during ISM to answer questions, respond to suggestions and discuss their ideas.

ISM Chocolate Masters – creating masterpieces before your very eyes
The latest trends and creations from the recipe books of famous chocolatiers – that's what visitors will see at the live demonstrations of the "Chocolate Masters – The art of sweet temptation" event at ISM. In their demonstration workshop in Passage 2/3, master praline and chocolate makers will present handmade works of art of the highest quality. The master artisans will include Maître Axel Hanf from Belgium, who will once again be a guest at ISM.
