Washington, D.C. – The American Bakers Association is pleased to announce the addition of a new member to its Board of Directors.
Kevin Phillips, vice president of operations support with Safeway’s Manufacturing & Logistics Division, has joined the board as of the new year. Mr. Phillips replaces Director Chris Moloney, vice president of Safeway’s Bakery Business Unit, who has served since 2000. Mr. Moloney will be retiring in the next few months.
“Chris Moloney has provided tremendous service and active engagement on ABA’s Board for the last decade. He has been a great source of insight, guidance and leadership, and his voice will be missed greatly,” said ABA President & CEO Robb MacKie. “He will be replaced by a very capable successor who we are excited to welcome to the group. We look forward to working alongside Mr. Phillips and Safeway to promote the interests of all sectors of baking in the coming years.”
In his role as vice president, Mr. Moloney oversaw operations of 11 Safeway plants, including those producing bread, cookies and crackers, beverages, and other groceries. He started with Safeway in 1968 as a baker in the Richmond bread plant, moving up the chain of command and being appointed vice president in 1997. Mr. Moloney additionally serves on the board of the American Institute of Baking (including serving as chairman from 2007-2009), and as a trustee for the Cereal Grains Department at Kansas State University. He is a graduate of the California State University at Hayward.
“On behalf of the entire board, we wish Chris and his lovely wife Peg great happiness as they embark on this new stage of their journey together,” said ABA Chairman Allen Shiver. “One of the many blessings of being part of the baking industry is the close friendships and genuine fondness for the people who work in the industry. Chris exemplifies that fact.”
The ABA Board of Directors is comprised of top leaders from all segments of the baking industry who help develop consensus policies that improve the government environment and overall health of the baking industry. Allen Shiver, president of Flowers Foods, is serving as the board’s chairman through March 2012.
