St. Louis’ Last Kosher Bakery Ready To Close

CREVE COEUR, MO – The last kosher bakery in St. Louis is closing its oven doors on Sunday, January 30th. Pratzel's Bakery opened in 1913, and has had several retail locations over its 98 year history. Its final store is really just a counter inside Simon Kohn's Market in Creve Coeur, and business there has been good.

But 75% of the bakery's customers are non-kosher wholesale clients, and the recession has taken a big bite out of that part of the business.

"It is difficult to reach this point because this is what I have done my entire life and I love doing it," said Ronnie Pratzel, the bakery's third generation owner.
