Livestock producers and consumers will suffer if the UnitedStates does not appeal the World Trade Organization ruling that says Country-of-Origin Labeling (COOL) discriminates against imported cattle and pork, according to Silvia Christen, executive director of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association.

Broulim’s Fresh Foods, Haggen Food & Pharmacy/TOP Foods, Harris Teeter Inc., and Safeway were awarded the National Retail Beef Backer awards today at the at the 2012 Cattle Industry Convention in Nashville. Funded by the Beef Checkoff Program, this effort recognizes grocery establishments that are doing an outstanding job of marketing and merchandising beef in the meat case.

Consumer Beef Index Provides Years Of Insights

The Consumer Beef Index (CBI) was established in early 2007 to track perceptions about beef, to provide a mechanism for determining which issues were increasing or decreasing in importance, and to spotlight key consumption trends. In July 2011 the 10th wave of this study was conducted, identifying key shifts in consumer reactions observed since the use of this tool was inaugurated.
