Stone Crabbers: Summer ‘Going To Be Tight’ After Worst Season In Memory

Stone crab claws hold a spot as the most valuable fishery in Collier County; only the Florida Keys boasts larger annual catches. The talk around the docks this year, though, has been about the worst stone crab season many crabbers can remember. Crabbers say they got pinched by smaller claws, smaller catches and smaller paychecks to carry them through until stone crab season reopens Oct. 15.

Annual NOAA Report Shows A Record Number Of Rebuilt Fisheries

Atlantic Canada Sea Scallop Fishery Entered Into MSC Assessment

The Full Bay Scallop Association (FBSA) in Canada has entered an Atlantic sea scallop (Placopecten magellanicus) fishery into independent, third-party assessment to the Marine Stewardship Council’s standard for sustainable and well-managed fisheries. If successful, products would be eligible to display the blue MSC ecolabel. The FBSA fleet is comprised of approximately 55 operating vessels ranging in size from 45 to 65 feet.

Alaska Airlines & Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute Unveil 129-Foot Salmon

Alaska Airlines and the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute today unveiled the world's largest king salmon. Stretching nearly 129 feet, the fish-themed design will adorn a Boeing 737-800 and be revealed this fall.
