Blue Bell Sends Ice Cream To Award-Winning Schools

JACKSONVILLE — Blue Bell Creameries honored Fred Douglass Elementary School and West Side Elementary School, both named 2010 national Blue Ribbon Schools, with school-wide ice cream parties on Monday. A Blue Bell truck filled with ice cream arrived at each school to treat all the students, teachers, and staff members in these schools.

Principals Sandi Jones at West Side Elementary School will receive a personal cooler of ice cream including her favorite flavor Homemade Vanilla, and Amber Penn at Fred Douglass Elementary School will receive her favorite Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Schools program has honored more than 6,000 of America’s most successful schools for the past 28 years. Schools are selected and awarded this prestigious honor annually for two reasons – helping students achieve at very high levels and making significant progress in closing the achievement gap.
