Colton, California – Recent nutrition studies conducted by researchers at University of Missouri found that study participants who consumed a high protein breakfast made up of eggs and pork "reported a decrease in hunger and an increase in fullness" throughout the day when compared to those who consumed a breakfast containing moderate protein levels and those who skipped breakfast altogether. Researchers studied overweight and obese teenage children who normally skip breakfast, and tracked the effects of a normal-protein cereal breakfast (15% of calories from protein), a high-protein egg and pork breakfast (40% of calories from protein) and skipping breakfast completely. The group consuming the higher protein egg and pork breakfast felt less hungry and experienced an increase in fullness compared to other groups. Moreover, the group eating a high protein breakfast also voluntarily reduced their daily intake by over 400 calories throughout the 12-week study. This study supports the positive impact a high protein breakfast has as a weight management strategy for overweight and obese teenage children.
