Christian County, MO Prohibits Sale Of Raw Milk

Ozark — The Christian County Health Department board changed its stance on raw milk Thursday, voting unanimously to ban sale and distribution of the product at farmers markets in the county.

The department previously allowed dairy farmers to distribute raw milk at farmers markets, but questions arose about whether that policy conflicted with state law.

In a June 3 meeting, the board discussed the interpretation of the law, which states: "An individual may purchase and have delivered to him for his own use raw milk or cream from a farm."

Some interpret that wording as allowing delivery of raw milk to customers anywhere. Attorney General Chris Koster's office, however, has a different opinion.
