PHILADELPHIA – Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program recently named Harold Shaulis, Somerset, Pa., as chairman of the board of directors. In this position, Shaulis will guide the programs of the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program to build demand for and sales of milk and dairy products and bolster the image of the dairy industry.

Shaulis, a Somerset County dairy farmer, has served on the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program board for 22 years. During that time, he served as vice chairman of the board for several terms and contributed on numerous committees. In addition, Shaulis provided support to Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program in forming partnerships with key industry players, such as the H.J. Heinz Company Foundation and a local McDonalds® franchise group. The partnerships maximize dairy farmers’ investment in the checkoff program.
“I look forward to continuing the direction we have taken in our programs,” Shaulis said, “in developing new partnerships and innovations with our industry partners, ramping up communications with our farmers, cooperatives and processors, and last but definitely not least, selling more of nature’s most perfect food – MILK!”
As a dairy farmer for nearly 40 years, Shaulis, his wife, Carol, son, Aaron, and farm partners, John and Cathy Dice, currently milk 120 cows and farm 145 acres of corn, 25 acres of oats and approximately 190 acres of hay.
“The dairy industry is my passion as well as my profession,” Shaulis said. “I firmly believe that every person has the responsibility to give back to their community and their profession.”
Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program is a local planning and management organization funded by dairy farmer checkoff dollars.
