Pennsylvania's Brunton Dairy Cleared To Resume Production

INDEPENDENCE TWP. — Brunton Dairy has been cleared to resume production of milk and ice cream, pending an inspection of its Independence Township facility, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday.

A final inspection is required of any farm operation wishing to begin or resume on-site milk processing, department spokeswoman Samantha Elliot Krepps said in an e-mail Tuesday.

There are no additional tests or pending test results that would prevent the dairy from resuming processing and sales of its milk and dairy products, Krepps said.

Milk production at the nearly 180-year-old dairy was shut down in late October for a second time this year after the state agriculture department, which oversees dairy production in Pennsylvania, found Yersinia enterocolitica in glass-bottled fat-free milk.
