Plains Dairy Starts $10M Facility Upgrade

Officials at Plains Dairy want the business to be bigger and better, and are in the middle of a $10-million expansion and modernization project to get there.

The expansion of the 78-year-old facility at 300 N. Taylor St. will allow it to bottle more milk, punch, juice, tea and water for parent company Affiliated Foods and local retailers.

“We were moving dirt by the end of March and building by May. We’re thinking it will be 12 months from now to finish,” said Greg Meador, vice president of the dairy.

Affiliated is a cooperative grocery wholesale company at South Washington Street and West Farmers Avenue that supplies retailers in seven states, according to information on its website. Sales this year are projected to reach $1.45 billion, said Randy Arceneaux, Affiliated president and CEO.
