Schreiber Foods New HQ Plan Could Revitalize Green Bay's Central Business District

Replacing a shuttered shopping mall with a new corporate headquarters could change the way residents view downtown, drawing them to businesses there and prompting entrepreneurs to snatch up vacant storefronts.

Business owners and downtown boosters think Schreiber Foods Inc.'s plan for a $50 million redevelopment of the former Port Plaza Mall could revive Green Bay's central business district.

Many believe the headquarters project will change the way area residents view downtown, drawing them to patronize businesses there and prompting entrepreneurs to snatch up vacant storefronts.

"There's going to be a whole new downtown," said Toni Burnett, executive director of the Children's Museum of Green Bay, which is under construction across the street from the site.
