Theo Muller GmbH Seeks U.S. Grant For Yogurt Operation

BATAVIA—Germany’s largest privately owned dairy business will enjoy a warm Willkommen with millions in tax and investment savings for its first venture in New York State.

Theo Muller GmbH has joined with PepsiCo to build a $206 million yogurt manufacturing operation in the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park, owned by the Genesee County Economic Development Center. The joint venture is known as Wave LLC.

Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N. Y., is asking the federal Economic Development Office for a $1 million grant to finance an aquifer water supply system for the 363,000-square-foot operation planned along East Main Street Road, near the city’s east border.

Wave LLC, also known as Wave Holding, would temporarily tap into wells on nearby Cedar Street, the source of much of the city’s water. Municipal water is treated and would require purifying to use in food processing and yogurt manufacturing, an added expense.
