Cheese Of The Week: Sarvecchio Parmigiano

The Sartori cheese company is well-represented in local groceries by their line of flavored Bellavitano cheeses, which can be found flavored with crusts of black pepper, espresso, merlot wine, raspberry or balsamic vinegar. They also offer aged Asiago and, oldest and most prestigious, SarVecchio, their version of Italian Parmigiano.

While American Parmesan cheeses run the gamut from awful to quite good, SarVecchio is a premium quality cheese, out of the ballpark when it comes to non-Italian Parmesans.

According to Sartori, between 2005 and the present, SarVecchio has won a total of 32 awards between the World Cheese Awards, U.S. Championship Cheese Contest, Global Cheese Awards, American Cheese Society, World Championship Cheese Contest, World Dairy Expo and the Wisconsin State Fair, including being named the U.S. Grand Champion Cheese in 2009 at the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest.
