Following the Reser’s Fine Foods (“Reser’s”) recall where select Reser’s products were recalled due to the potential of being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, Dutch Treat Salads, LLC, of Zeeland, MI, is voluntarily recalling one product, Mexicali Dip, that contains one ingredient recalled by Reser’s. There have been no reported illnesses associated with these products. The product is being recalled because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. The potential contamination did not originate at the Dutch Treat Salads facility.
The recalled Mexicali Dip was sold bulk in 10 pound cases to one distributor in Michigan under the Lipari Old Tyme label.
The distributor sold it in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. It was also sold in retail stores in Michigan in bulk 5 pounds bags and 14 ounce containers under the Dutch Treat Salads label. The recalled product has “Use By” dates of 10/18/13 through 11/22/13.
The distributor and retail stores have been contacted and instructed to remove any product from their shelves and to dispose of any remaining product in their inventory. Consumers who have purchased the product should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call the company collect at 616-772-5921.
