Foods Co. Deli Manager Wins Kroger Community Service Award

HANFORD — Most will probably only recognize Janet Guerra as the friendly face behind the deli/bakery counter at the local Foods Co. grocery store. But now retail giant Kroger, the store’s parent company, wants to award Guerra for all the work she does on the other side of the counter.

Guerra has been selected as the recipient of the Kroger Community Service Award. She earned the prestigious award for her extensive volunteer efforts to help the homeless, the hungry, battered women and at-risk youth.

She will receive the honor on Friday during an 11 a.m. ceremony at the Hanford Foods Co. store. A $500 check will be presented to her charity of choice — the Hanford Pentecostal Church of God — as part of the award. Representatives from the church will be on hand to receive the donation.
